The Need

Since the introduction of more stringent Aviation Security regulations by the European Parliament following the terrorist attacks on September 11 2001, Member States of the European Union (EU) have to ensure everything possible is done to deter and prevent attempts to place an explosive device, or any other item that can be used to endanger the safety on board any passenger or cargo carrying aircraft.

Thousands of companies operating in the Air Cargo industry in the UK have to comply with these regulations under three possible areas; namely as a Regulated Air Cargo Agent, Aircraft Operator, or Known Consignor.

A Regulated Air Cargo Agent, Aircraft Operator, and Known Consignor operating its business in the UK have to comply with EU Regulations and the National Aviation Security Programme (NASP) and ensure that their staff are aware of their responsibilities when it comes to aviation security. They must also ensure that their own staff, and staff from other appropriate agencies operating on their behalf, are trained to the required standards.

The objective of Air Cargo Security Training is to ensure that all relevant personnel involved in the preparation of air cargo can apply a standardised level of preventative aviation security measures, in order to safeguard civil aviation against acts of unlawful interference.

If your company falls into any of these categories, or if you supply temporary/agency staff to any of these categories, then training is mandatory for your staff.
